Türkiye: The Emerging Regional Hub for Asian Capital

Türkiye’s transformation into a regional hub for Asian capital has accelerated through recent strategic developments and structural reforms. For international entrepreneurs, understanding this process and the resulting opportunities is crucial for crafting effective investment strategies in a rapidly evolving economic landscape.

Key Turning Point: Partnership with the Asian Development Bank

Türkiye’s shift to regional membership in the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in 2024 laid the institutional foundation for deeper integration with Asia’s financial ecosystem. During ADB President Masato Kanda’s visit to Türkiye in November 2025, he and Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek signed an “Interim Country Partnership Strategy,” outlining a clear roadmap for expanded regional cooperation.

This change in membership grants both the public and private sectors direct access to ADB’s concessional financing and technical support facilities. The financing framework – 1 billion USD by the end of 2025 and 3 billion USD annually for 2026 and 2027 – underscores Türkiye’s central role in ADB’s regional strategy.

Geographic and Strategic Advantages

Türkiye’s unique position at the crossroads of Europe and Asia gives it a logistical and strategic edge in regional connectivity. Investments in transportation, energy, and digital infrastructure have strengthened its role as a bridge linking East and West, making Türkiye an attractive destination for Asian investors seeking access to both markets.

As Asia’s weight in the global economy continues to grow, Türkiye’s position in emerging trade corridors gains increasing strategic significance. Of the world’s top 20 trade routes by volume, 13 are directly connected to Asia – and Türkiye anchors the western extension of this vast network.

The Middle Corridor and Regional Connectivity

Among the two primary focus areas of ADB’s 2025–2027 strategy, “Regional Connectivity” places special emphasis on the Middle Corridor Initiative. This project enhances Türkiye’s integration with China’s Belt and Road Initiative, solidifying its role as a regional anchor and reinforcing its logistical centrality in Eurasian trade dynamics.

The “Re-Asia Initiative”: Türkiye’s Strategic Framework

Launched in 2019, Türkiye’s Re-Asia Initiative is more than a foreign policy tool—it is a structured platform for multi-dimensional cooperation with Asian economies. The initiative focuses on strengthening ties through knowledge sharing, joint ventures, production and trade partnerships, and active engagement in resolving regional challenges.

Investment Opportunities for Entrepreneurs

The ADB’s Interim Partnership Strategy identifies several priority sectors that define new opportunity areas for investors and entrepreneurs:

  • disaster-resilient infrastructure: post-earthquake reconstruction has opened strong partnership prospects in construction, logistics, and technology projects
  • energy transition: regional cooperation in water, food, and energy security creates space for renewable energy investments and smart grid technologies
  • digital integration: the digitalization of transport and energy networks offers opportunities in fintech, logistics technologies, and data-driven services

Financial Reliability and Türkiye’s Reputation as a Trusted Partner

Türkiye’s Ministry of Treasury and Finance has built a robust collaboration framework with multilateral development banks, positioning Türkiye as a reliable and preferred partner for Asian capital. This reputation is increasingly shaping investment decisions among emerging Asian economies and capital holders.

Moreover, with growing cross-investment flows between Asia and the Gulf region, Türkiye naturally serves as a transit and coordination hub for bilateral and multilateral ventures. This dynamic enables entrepreneurs to use Türkiye as a strategic base, improving the efficiency of regional expansion plans and unlocking new financial and trade synergies across Eurasia.
